Wine Tasting Ruse & Silistra
Day 1: Arrival via the Danube bridge at Ruse, ride/drive (27km) to a winery in Rusenski Lom Nature Park for a tasting of their range of delightful vintage wines, accompanied with a degustation of complementary appetisers and snacks. Followed by dinner and an overnight stay at a nearby B&B guesthouse (250m).
Day 2: After breakfast the group will drive/ride (86km) to the superb Thracian Tomb near Sveshtari to see the extremely well preserved and presented remains at this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picnic lunch on site, then on to our next winery (60km) for another lovely tasting with suitable delectable treats and mouth-watering bites. Dinner and overnight stay at the winery.
Day 3: Following breakfast we head to Srebarna Nature Reserve (24km) for a guided tour and to see the wide range of birds that make this place their home. Then on into Silistra (15km) for lunch and your final tasting of wines from our third winery, at a city centre hotel, before ending our tour and crossing back over the Danube by ferryboat into Romania.

Wine Tasting Ruse

Day 2: After breakfast the group will ride/drive (28km) to the wonderful Ivanovo Rock hewn Monastery and Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see the 14th century murals depicting scenes from the life of Christ and the Saints. From this area you will also get fantastic views of the park. Picnic lunch, then on to our next winery (13km) for another lovely tasting with suitable delectable treats and mouth-watering bites. Dinner and overnight stay at the winery.
Day 3: Following breakfast we head to Basarbovo village (23km) to visit the working monastery. Then on into Ruse (10km) for lunch and your final tasting at our third winery before ending our tour and crossing back over the Danube into Romania.

Wine Tasting Silistra
Day 1: Arrival via ferryboat at Ostrov/Silistra, drive/ride to the Village of Vetren (20km) on the banks of the River Danube followed by three course dinner served with regional wines and an overnight en-suite stay at a B&B guesthouse there.
Day 2: After breakfast the group visit Srebarna Nature Reserve (5km) a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for a guided tour and to see the wide range of birds that make this place their home. Following lunch in Srebarna we will ride/drive to Sitovo region (35km) to visit a winery for our second tasting of local wines accompanied by suitable delectable treats and mouth-watering bites. Three course dinner and en-suite overnight stay at the winery.
Day 3: Breakfast then the group ride/drive back to Silistra (40km) for a final degustation with local wines and a range of tasty local delicacies at a city centre location before ending your tour and crossing back over into Romania at Silistra/Ostrov then by ferryboat to Calarasi.

Dobrudzha Military History
A three night four day walking tour of the most important
historical military sites in Northeast Bulgaria.
Day 1: Arrival at Bucharest Airport Romania, minibus transfer to Bulgaria crossing the River Danube at Calarasi/Silistra. After checking into your guesthouse and freshening up we'll take a guided walk around the Srebarna Nature Reserve a UNESCO World Heritage Site followed by your three course dinner.
Day 2: After breakfast we'll head by minibus to the nearby region of Tutrakan, the scene of the Battle of Turtucaia (1916), where Bulgarian Central Power troops took back the area from Romanian forces who had been given control at the end of the second Balkan War (1913). We will circumnavigate the area and also visit the Military Cemetery there. Lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Danube. After which we'll walk a section of the Roman road that led from Sexaginta Prista, modern day Ruse to Durosturom present day Silistra . Dinner back at your guesthouse.
Day 3: Following breakfast we'll drive to the town of Kalipetrovo and walk up to Medijiya Tabia Ottoman Fortress that overlooks the city of Silistra, where we will be met by local historian Dobromira who will be our guide. There was a tunnel leading from the area right down into the city centre in order for supplies and people to be smuggled into the Fort during times of siege it is no longer passable however we will walk down the hill into Silistra to take lunch in a restaurant built into the catacombs where it ended.
Then we head south to Dobrich to visit a unique WW1 Military Cemetery and Museum there. The only one in the Balkans to be the final resting place of troops from four religions and seven nations. Return to your guesthouse for dinner.
Day 4: Departing your guesthouse after breakfast we will head west towards the village of Gorsko Ablanovo, the scene of one of the fiercest battles of the Russo-Turkish War 1877-1878. After visiting the site we'll take lunch then transfer you back to Otopeni in good time for your return flight to UK.
Danube Days
A seven night walking tour along the Bulgaria and Romania River Danube from Bucharest to the Delta.
We stay in four different locations on the way and see ther best that the region has to offer.
Day 1: Arrival at Otopeni Airport Romania. Transfer to City Centre Hotel with a city walking tour including a visit to see the 'People's Palace' the residence of former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and dinner at 'Caru cu Bere' the city's oldest restaurant includes live dance show. Overnight in Bucharest.
Day 2: After breakfast we travel south and cross the Danube to the village of Dunavets in Bulgaria for a 12km walk following a Roman road along the river to Malak Preslavets Reservoir. Picnic lunch there then transfer to Srebarna Nature Reserve for overnight stay with dinner at the village of Vetren on the banks of the river.
Day 3: Following breakfast we have a guided 10km walking tour of Srebarna nature Reserve, then lunch with a traditional folk singing show. Afternoon 5km walk, more of a stroll this one, from Srebarna to Vetren. Dinner and overnight in Vetren.
Day 4: Transfer to north-east of the reserve and 14km walk, with picnic lunch, following the course of the river into Silistra. Cross back into Romania from Silistra to Ostrov then catch the ferryboat over the Danube to Chiciu, dinner and overnight there.
Day 5: After breakfast we head to Tulcea at the Danube Delta our base for the following three nights. Stopping for lunch on the way at Histria the site of an ancient Greek city, which was also inhabited by Romans, to walk amongst the remains and visit the excellent archaeological museum there. As we approach the region we'll leave the minibus and walk 15km through some of the wetland area that makes up the southern Delta. Arriving at our hotel in time for dinner.
Day 6: Option 1,Those who wish will walk the short distance to the quay to take a full day boat trip, 25€ supplement, into the backwaters of the Danube, we'll head down the main body of the river before peeling off into smaller channels to witness the beauty of this place and see some of the wildlife that makes it their home. Lunch onboard after which the boat will head slowly back to our base.
Option 2, Should people prefer, after crossing the Danube by local ferryboat we'll walk 15km along Danube Delta Hiking Route D4 up close to the Ukrainian border from the village of Tudor Vladimirescu, skirting the village of Patlageanca and then back to T.V. This day also offers a good opportunity for souvenir shopping once we arrive back in Tulcea. Dinner at our hotel.
Day 7 We head west to the village of Nifon from where we will walk 20 km through the foothills of the Macin Mountains National Park to Luncavita. These mountains are amongst the oldest in Romania being between 250 and 280 million years in age. We'll take a picnic lunch along the way at a quiet roadside rest area. Then it's back to our hotel for our final night.
Day 8: Breakfast, after which we will transfer you back to Bucharest in good time for your return flights to UK.
